Woman with beautiful teeth, smiling on beach

Are you among the countless millions of people who plan to head to the beach this summer? If so, you should remember to pack all the accessories that are necessary for a great time, including your swimsuit, sunscreen, and a genuine smile for all of your vacation pictures. But what if your teeth have a few imperfections that make you hesitate to let your smile shine? Share your concerns with your cosmetic dentist. They might recommend that you invest in veneers. Continue reading to learn how this treatment can be the secret to a beach-ready smile.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that a dentist attaches to the outer surface of the teeth. They are custom-crafted for each patient, and their job is to hide flaws and imperfections. For example, they can disguise issues like chips, discoloration, minor misalignment, small gaps between the teeth, and more.

When they are placed by a skilled and detail-oriented dentist, veneers tend to look very natural. They are also versatile. You could request a single veneer to cover one tooth, or you could totally transform your entire smile with a complete set of veneers.

What Is Involved in Getting Veneers?

Here is a general overview of the veneers treatment process:

  • Initial consultation. Your cosmetic dentist will ask about your goals for treatment, evaluate your oral health, and help you determine if veneers are the right procedure for you. If you have any inspiration photos for your new look, feel free to bring them to your appointment.
  • Preparation. To ensure that your veneers look and feel as natural as possible, your dentist will probably have to remove a bit of enamel from your teeth.
  • Creation of your veneers. A dental laboratory will fabricate your veneers according to your dentist’s instructions. In the meantime, you will wear temporary veneers to protect your teeth.
  • Attachment. Once your dentist verifies that your permanent veneers meet or exceed expectations, they will be attached to your teeth.

How Long Does It Take to Get Veneers?

Exactly how long it takes to get veneers varies from case to case. It depends on your dentist’s schedule and how quickly the dental lab is able to work. Your oral health also comes into play; some patients require minor restorative care before they qualify for veneers. It is also common for people to get their teeth whitened prior to moving forward with veneers.

It usually takes at least a few weeks to complete the veneers treatment process, so be sure to plan accordingly. If your new smile will not be ready by the time you leave for your vacation, do not be too downhearted. Veneers have a long life expectancy (10 – 15 years or longer), so you will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy all of their benefits.

Is your smile ready for the beach? Veneers may be just what you need to feel like a star when you are posing for your vacation photos.
