Keep Your Invisalign Trays in Good Shape with These Handy Tips

Invisalign treatment is designed to be as convenient and aesthetically pleasing as possible. However, it will not live up to its potential if you do not do your part. You must keep your Invisalign trays in good shape by applying some basic best practices. Here are some specific tips that will help you maintain a fresh mouth and keep your treatment on track toward success:

Regularly Rinse Your Aligners

You should try to rinse your aligner trays frequently — whenever you are preparing to place them in your mouth. Doing so can get rid of bacteria and prevent saliva from hardening on your aligners and causing them to become discolored.

Clean Your Aligners Nightly

Even if you are diligent about rinsing your aligners, that does not eliminate the need for you to thoroughly clean them each night. Use a soft brush and a mild cleaning agent to clean them both inside and out. You should also regularly soak them. Invisalign makes cleaning crystals that can help to keep your aligners fresh without damaging them.

Keep Your Mouth Clean

If you do not regularly clean your mouth, bacteria could transfer from your teeth onto your aligners, causing them to collect odors, pigments, and bacteria. You should try to make it your habit to brush and floss after each meal so your aligners can always get placed on clean teeth.

Store Your Aligners Securely

Whenever you are not wearing your aligners (ideally, this should only be at mealtimes and when you are caring for oral hygiene), they should be stored securely. Therefore, you should not wrap them in a napkin while you eat or place them in a location where a curious pet or small child might take off with them. Put them in their designated storage case to protect them from damage.

Mind Your Eating and Drinking Habits

The only thing you should consume while wearing your Invisalign trays is plain water. Eating or drinking anything else could cause your aligners to become stained or warp them so they are no longer usable.

Ask Your Dentist if You Have Questions or Concerns

If you ever have questions or concerns about how to care for either your mouth or your aligners while you are using Invisalign, do not hesitate to call your dental team. They will be happy to help you navigate the situation so you can avoid making mistakes that could cause delays in your treatment journey.

Caring for Invisalign trays is easy! Use the above tips to keep your aligners — and your smile — in good shape.
