Common Cosmetic Dental Problems and How to Fix Them

The way you look is far from being the most important thing about you. However, it is what other people notice first. You should feel confident about your appearance! Sadly, though, many people struggle with feelings of self-consciousness because of aesthetic imperfections in their teeth. Fortunately, common cosmetic dental problems are almost always fixable! Here are some examples of such problems and how they are often treated:

Discolored Teeth

Teeth naturally incur discoloration over time, usually due to the consumption of things like coffee, red wine, and other highly pigmented items. Smoking and genetics can also play a role in dental stains. If your smile looks a bit dull or yellow, professional teeth whitening might be ideal for you. Both in-office and at-home whitening treatments are available. They have the potential to drastically whiten your smile in a short period of time!

Irregularly Shaped Teeth

Some teeth have an irregular shape due to bruxism (grinding and clenching), genetics, or other reasons. Depending on the specifics of your situation, your dentist might recommend that you undergo one of the following treatments:

  • Veneers. These are thin, custom-made pieces of porcelain that cover the outward-facing surfaces of the teeth. They can hide many imperfections, including irregularities in shape.
  • Dental bonding. This is a fast service that uses a composite resin to hide flaws in teeth. It looks similar to veneers at first, but it is not as durable.
  • Metal-free crowns. A porcelain dental crown can cover the entire portion of the tooth that is visible above the gumline. It can improve the tooth’s function and make it look absolutely beautiful.

Cracked, Chipped, or Broken Teeth

Chipped, cracked, and broken teeth are often not just a cosmetic issue; they can affect your oral health and function! In many cases, the best way to address such problems is with the help of crowns or veneers. However, if a tooth is severely damaged, it might need to be removed. Later, you may choose to replace it with a lifelike dental implant.

Other Cosmetic Issues

Aesthetic issues like gapped teeth, crooked teeth, a gummy smile, and more are all fixable via various dental services. Simply ask your dentist what they recommend so you can start thinking about your treatment options.

A beautiful smile may be easier to attain than you thought! Your dentist is ready to provide treatments that can correct common cosmetic dental problems and make you feel great about what you see in the mirror.
