What You Need to Know about Dental Sealants

Getting your child to brush his/her teeth can be a trying task and leave a lot of questions:  Are they brushing correctly?  Are they brushing long enough?  Even when you know they are brushing, are they able to reach the teeth all the way in the back?  The back teeth, or molars, are a great place for bacteria to hide as they are tough to reach and have a lot of rough, groovy edges.

Sealants Prevent Cavities

Dental sealants are used to protect the groovy edges on the back teeth.  A sealant is a thin, protective coating that sticks to the surface of the molars.  Sealants protect the tooth from decay, which helps prevent cavities!  Children should still brush and floss, but a sealant is a great option for extra protection.  The Center for Disease Control released a report in 2016 that stated that children without sealants have three times more cavities than children with sealants.  Please contact All Dental Center for an easy, pain-free application of dental sealants.

Pain Free Procedure

The process for placement of a dental sealant is painless and quick.  Once the teeth are clean and dried, the dentist will place an acidic gel-type substance on the molar, especially in the groovy parts of the teeth.  A bond forms between the tooth and the sealant, and a special blue light is used to harden the sealant.  A dental sealant can last for several years before it may need to be redone.

Are you Covered?

Sealants are safe and are covered by most insurance plans.  Adults can benefit from sealants too!  If you are looking for a dentist in Watertown, we would love to have you as a patient at All Dental Center
